Stickers

These stickers are unique multipurpose designs. They are fashioned after the bar code stickers found on apples in grocery stores and can be worn or displayed simply as stickers. They also have another purpose, however. They may be placed on red sticker paper around the likeness of an apple so that, as they are peeled from the surface, the apple transitions from the stickers’ grey color to the brilliant red of an apple. This apple undergoing a color change from achromatic grey to bright red to is a significant symbol in Jonas’s story as a character in the book, The Giver, by Lois Lowry. Its occurrence spurs his journey from an ordinary child in his community to a young man who is developing the ability to “see beyond” the ordinary scope possessed by those around him. Therefore, these stickers, if used in conjunction with an apple form, can be a powerful visual metaphor for Jonas’s exceptional abilities.
