Introducing Jonas's Campaign for Mayor

Hello, my name is Michaela Baswell and I am the designer behind the Jonas Campaign
project! This endeavor was a special and important one for me, as it was my final senior project before my graduation from MTSU. I am  beyond excited to share it as a completed exhibit, portfolio website, and gallery!

How did this body of work develop, though? The foundation for this project was creating branding materials for the fictional political campaign of a book character. My selected character, Jonas, can be discovered in the pages of a children’s story which I have enjoyed since I first studied it ten years ago in eighth grade: The Giver, by Lois Lowry. Most of my campaign, however, is based on my own concept of the character Jonas during the period between the time of The Giver and of its second sequel, Messenger (also by Lois Lowry). This project has become gradually more personal as I progressed through it, and the character of Jonas has grown in my mind as if he were a real candidate for a faraway city somewhere. Although this project is drawing to its close in terms of my continued progress on it, my hope is that Jonas’s campaign will come to seem as distinctive, realistic, and intriguing for its viewers as it seems to me, its creator.
