Old Sled

This sled, like the campaign stickers, symbolizes an important landmark in Jonas’s development of his ability to “see beyond” the commonplace scope of his peers and competitors. In the book, The Giver, by Lois Lowry, Jonas sees the color red in a sled he rides when he sees coloration for the second time in his life. He also uses the sled to save both himself and a child who was going to be killed, finding a new life and hope through his developing capabilities.
